Mailchimp’s new pricing model

by | Wed 2 Oct, 19

On May 15th 2019, Mailchimp introduced a new pricing model and is now offering four basic plans in comparison to the three they had prior; Free, Grow and Pro. If users had existing Mailchimp services in place before this change, these will now be referred to as legacy plans. So, why the change?

Mailchimp’s pricing model has historically seen frequent changes over the years seemingly due to having a yearly pricing model in place. This means that their pricing bundles change to match the current market conditions. Due to pricing their model by value to the customer, rather than by product or competition scaling, this works to give customers the best value for them individually at the time of purchase.

Essentially, the price you will pay is based on the size of the audience you are sending emails out to, which means it scales up and down for companies of all sizes, from SMEs to global enterprises. Subscribed users will be allocated a number of credits based on their plan which will determine how many emails you can send out. If you run out of credits, you won’t need to refill these – any additional charges will simply be added to your plan on payment.

The pricing models

Mailchimp now offers four pricing models, starting from a free plan. With each priced update, Mailchimp users will benefit from more features, greater customisation and increased support. The four plans are:

Free – $0.00

This plan offers Mailchimp users all the necessary basics to get to know the platform and enhance their email marketing strategy.

Essentials – Starting from $9.99

Offering a more comprehensive package for users who need extra support and add-on services. This includes all email templates and custom branding.

Standard – Starting from $14.99

Includes all features of the packages above, along with automation series, retargeting ads and custom templates.

Premium – Starting from $299.00

Offers a much more comprehensive package for users needing more custom options, including advanced segmentation, comparative reports, multivariate testing and phone support. This also enables you to add unlimited users, ideal for larger marketing companies, including email marketing agencies.
